1. About the service
Academic Research is a web platform that searches academic sources (including OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar and Unpaywall), and uses artificial intelligence to help you draft, edit, format and present academic documents, including project briefs, literature reviews, full documents, corrections, IT reports and presentations, and to export them as PDF, Word and PowerPoint files.
2. Eligibility and accounts
- You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding contract.
- You must give accurate information and keep your password secure.
- One person, one account. Accounts cannot be sold, shared or transferred.
- You may be signed in on up to 2 devices. Another sign-in signs out the device used least recently. You are responsible for activity on your account.
- We may ask you to verify your email address or phone number before certain actions.
3. Acceptable use and academic integrity
- You are solely responsible for how you use the output, and for complying with the rules of your institution, supervisor, examiner and any publisher. Some institutions restrict or prohibit AI assistance. It is your duty to find out and comply.
- Output is a draft to support your own work. You must read, check, correct and cite it, and you must verify every reference and fact before submitting.
- We do not guarantee that output will be accepted, graded in any way, or pass any plagiarism or AI-detection tool.
- You must not use the service to: break the law or institutional rules; infringe anyone's rights; upload material you have no right to use; harass or deceive others; submit work in a way that misrepresents authorship where your institution forbids it; reverse engineer or scrape the service; remove or alter watermarks or reference IDs; bypass limits, payments, device or group rules; create fake groups, accounts or referrals; or share or resell your account, Seat ID, coins or exports.
- We may investigate suspected misuse and take action under section 13.
4. Your content and the output
- You keep your rights in the materials you upload and the details you enter ("Your Content").
- You give us a limited licence to process Your Content, including by sending it to our service providers (such as AI and hosting providers), only to provide, secure and improve the service for you.
- You confirm you have the rights needed to upload Your Content.
- As between you and us, and subject to the rights of others in source materials, you may use the output for your academic and professional purposes. Output can resemble other users' output or published text, and we do not guarantee uniqueness.
- Papers and sources shown are owned by their authors and publishers and are subject to their own terms. Open-access links go to third-party sites.
5. Coins
- Coins are a prepaid balance used for writing actions. The cost appears on each action before you confirm it.
- Research, viewing, and exporting existing work remain available at 0 coins.
- Coins have no cash value, are not transferable, and are not refundable except as stated in these Terms.
- When a writing run fails, coins are returned automatically.
- A finish-line reserve may prevent optional actions that would leave too few coins for your main document.
- Coins expire only after 18 months of account inactivity. We will warn you by email at least 30 days before expiry.
- We may change coin costs for future actions. Changes do not alter balances you already hold, and costs are always shown before you confirm.
6. Plans, prices and payment
- Free accounts receive 1,050 coins once, exports with a visible "Free version" watermark, a preview of the preliminary pages and Chapter 1, and one 5-slide deck.
- Nigerian one-time packages: SIWES ₦7,000 for 3,500 coins, Seminar ₦10,000 for 5,000 coins, Project ₦15,000 for 7,500 coins. Bundles receive a 15% discount when bought together in one checkout. VAT of 7.5% is added to naira prices.
- International monthly plans: $10 for 5,000 coins a month and $15 for 8,000 coins a month, without VAT. Monthly coins do not roll over. You may cancel from the Billing page, effective at the end of the paid period.
- Any paid package unlocks every feature. Top-ups are available to paid accounts.
- Payments are processed by Paystack and Flutterwave. We do not store your full card details.
- Prices may change for future purchases. The price shown at checkout applies to your order.
- We are required to charge applicable taxes, and we show them in your order summary.
7. Refunds
- Failed runs: coins are returned automatically.
- Groups that end under the minimum: members may pay the difference for the full package or request a refund within 7 days.
- Duplicate or erroneous charges: we will correct them on request.
- Other cases: [refund rule to be decided, for example refund of unused coins within a stated number of days of purchase]. Nothing in these Terms limits any right you have under Nigerian consumer protection law.
- To request a refund, contact support with your order reference.
8. Groups (Nigeria)
- Group seats cost 80% of the package price. A group needs 3 to 10 paying members within 48 hours of creation.
- Each member receives a personal Seat ID, tied to that member's verified account. Seat IDs cannot be shared or transferred. 5 wrong attempts lock entry for 30 minutes.
- Only distinct payers count (separate email, phone number and payment card).
- We may hold, review, close or void groups that appear to share a device, network or card, or that otherwise appear artificial, and may withdraw the group discount.
- No referral credit is earned on group purchases.
- Each member's work is generated independently and kept private from other members.
9. Referrals and wallet credit
- You earn 15% of the package price paid by each friend you refer, as wallet credit, credited 7 days after their payment (and not if the payment is refunded).
- Wallet credit can be used at checkout. It has no cash value unless we state otherwise.
- Self-referral and artificial referrals are prohibited and blocked by account, phone, browser and card checks. We may cancel credit earned in breach.
10. Exports, watermarks and reference IDs
- Free exports carry a visible "Free version" watermark.
- Every PDF, Word and PowerPoint export carries a small hidden reference ID that traces it to your account. You consent to this. It is used to protect the platform, resolve disputes and investigate misuse or leaks.
- You must not remove or interfere with reference IDs or watermarks.
- Exports are stored for 7 days. Download them promptly. We are not responsible for exports removed after that period.
- Uploads and projects are subject to storage quotas and monthly upload limits shown in your account. Uploads from lapsed accounts may be deleted after notice.
11. Availability and changes to the service
- We work to keep the service available but do not promise uninterrupted access. We may suspend the service for maintenance or security.
- Third-party services (AI providers, academic databases, payment, SMS and email providers) may be unavailable or change, which may affect features.
- We may add, change or remove features. If we remove a feature you paid for in a way that materially reduces its value, we will offer a fair remedy.
12. Disclaimers and limits of liability
- The service and output are provided "as is" to the extent allowed by law. Output may contain errors, omissions or outdated information.
- We are not responsible for the consequences of your submission of output to any institution, including penalties, failed assessments or disciplinary action.
- To the extent allowed by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of grades, opportunities or data, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
- Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law, including for fraud, or limits your statutory consumer rights.
13. Suspension and termination
- You may stop using the service and delete your account at any time.
- We may suspend or end your access, remove content and withhold coins or credit if you breach these Terms, misuse the service, commit fraud, or if required by law. Where reasonable, we will tell you why and allow you to respond.
- Sections which by nature continue (liability, disputes, intellectual property) survive termination.
14. Indemnity
You agree to cover reasonable losses we suffer from your breach of these Terms or your unlawful use of the service, to the extent allowed by law.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We will tell you of material changes in advance where possible and ask you to accept the new version. If you do not accept, you may close your account.
16. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We encourage you to contact us first to resolve any complaint. Subject to your statutory rights, the courts of [state, Nigeria] have jurisdiction [confirm with lawyer, including any arbitration clause].
